Black out what you don’t want to share.
If you need to share your messages for any reason, you can black out a third party’s phone number, a medical detail, your children’s names, or anything at all. The blacked-out words are gone from the file, so nobody can select them and read them back.
The file notes that something was blacked out rather than hiding that it happened, which is what a court expects. What may be withheld is a legal judgment, and that one is your counsel’s to make.
Why I built this
I have an iPhone and a Windows PC, and for years there was no decent way to read my own messages on the bigger screen. Most tools I tried wanted a copy of my phone I’d already made, which meant having to install iTunes or some other 3rd party tool to actually get the messages to my PC. So I wrote the part I wanted: ScribeHold talks to the phone itself, and keeps up-to-date in the background whenever I plug in.
